Forgive me, shoe gods, I have (once again) sinned.

Le Objet du Désir.

DANNIJO Zeppelin Boots.  Black.  Neon.  Glitter.  Cut-outs.  Combat Style.  Can you really blame me?

Love, SG

Footnote:  I purchased these here, they were on sale from $325 and I ended up paying under $100.  Good times.

There are days when I eschew my natural instinct, and go for the adult version of Sheela.  It’s a rare occurrence but it happens.

A truly brief post this will be, I’m a few hours shy of boarding that plane for New York City.  I’m scared and excited, anxious that I won’t be as well-dressed or stylish or skinny or, you know, as good as any of those experienced bloggers attending IFBCON ~ what if I get tongue-tied and become “that” one person nobody talks to???  ARRRGGGGHHHH I have to deal with my insecurities and my fears, and try to have as good a time as I possibly can :)

p/s Outfit details ~ Harajuku top and Vintage Gold Tone Tie Necklace borrowed from Eve, Wool Pants with Leather/Buckle Cummerbund (thrifted), Vintage Gucci Doctor Bag (from my man last Valentine’s Day), Brass Spiked Cuffs (thrifted), and Suede Peep-Toe Heeled Ankle Boots with Ruffles (online)

“Chartreuse, the only liqueur so good they named a color after it” ~ Death Proof, a Quentin Tarantino flick.

I do believe I lit up my surroundings with this outfit.  It’s all sorts of colourful, is it not?  There’s an entire parade going on yet it seems to work (that’s what I’m going with, anyways).  Eye-popping hues, effusive prints, stained glass effects, Bollywood cuff, oh and the hair.  Let’s not forget about the hair.

Gah.  I’m still squinting, damnit.

And then, there were those shoes.  I fell in love with them the moment I laid eyes upon those cathedral stained glass heels with that Royal Blue Suede upper.  In fact, my infatuation stretched across the purchase of two pairs, the second being with Black Suede.  Yes, insert sheepish grin here, I tend to do that.  Purchase things in multiples.  Particularly when it comes to shoes.  As though you didn’t already know that by now.

Purple Wolf Head Pendant fashioned from Clay.  It’s from this amazing store called The Rogue & The Wolf which is in the midst of a superb sale so go forth :) and that stunning Stag ring?  It’s thrifted.  Do you not also adore my Bollywood Cuff??  It’s the perfect mix of Turquoise with Gold.  Sidenote:  how is it that when I try the all pouty and sassy pose, I just end up looking somewhat cross-eyed and just, well, cross?

“Beast Mode” ~ To flip out; lose control; be overwhelmed with anger. Origin: Beast Wars- Optimus Primal would “go Beast-Mode” and change into a powerful and forceful animal.  Can you tell that this is one of my favourite gym shirts?

Concocted by French Carthusian Monks since the 1740s, Chartreuse is composed of distilled alcohol and a potent mix of 130 herbal extracts.

Hey, posing is tiring.

Incidentally, Chartreuse is also one of the handful of liquors which continues to age and improve in the bottle.  Read:  there is hope for me.

“A murder! Oh, my. Let me just change my shoes,” Evie said excitedly. “It won’t be a minute.”

I’ll come clean.

I’m so NOT a button-down crisp shirt type of woman.  I never have been and I’ve never contemplated the notion of defecting to any other camp of thought.  So you can imagine the sensation of dread I experienced when I read the details of the Independent Fashion Bloggers Project for this week.  Yes, IFB Project #80 ~ Menswear, For Everyone.

~ insert cringe, a second cringe, and a third for good measure ~

Does it thus come as any surprise that I’m turning in my outfit post based on the theme at the 11th hour way past the deadline?

Cut me some slack.  I’ve had chronic insomnia for over 20 years now, and didn’t sleep much the night before.

23rd January 2013 02

Finally coaxed a smile out of me, huh.  Hey hey, I changed my lippy for this shoot :) instead of my usual Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Lip Stain in Lovesick (I love you, Emma Stone), I’ve got on Cover Girl’s Matte Lipstick in #330 Divine.  It’s my latest to-go hue.  I like how the colour is matte and I need so little of it to make an impression, plus the pink isn’t overtly Barbie with that hint of exotic orchid.  Flirty sans the girly.

23rd January 2013 03

Love the rips.  Gives those leggings (actually, they’re leggings with an attached mini) some street cred.  From Herban Devi.

23rd January 2013 04

White Button Down with those adorable bunnies is vintage :) from Hong Kong and belongs to Eve (my turn to pilfer from your closet, ha!).  That Neck Tie Necklace is also vintage, from Vintage HQ.  The Wooden Claw ring is contemporary and I can’t remember where I got it from.

23rd January 2013 05

Killer Biker Babe Heeled Booties from Bakers, a gift from my man.  As you’ve probably already noticed, I wear these a lot.  I know you can’t see them but my toesies are painted as well in Lucy – It Girl from Julep.  It’s a sexy and sassy Plush Burgundy.

23rd January 2013 06

Isn’t that Yellow + Black Plaid Underbust Corset-cum-Vest thingy so McQueen?????  I’ve had it for several years now but could probably count the number of times I’ve paraded it outside on one hand.  Shame on you, Sheela.

23rd January 2013 07

Cute!!!  Squeal!!!!!

23rd January 2013 08

In case you haven’t noticed, I dyed my hair – again.  I was going for something a lot more purple but ended up with this subtle Burgundy colour, and I’m not too pleased with it.  I’m realising that finding vivid purple hair dyes that do not stink to high heaven and which work well and do not kill my hair is quite the challenge.  Thank you god for eBay and Schwarzkopf.  I’m currently waiting for my shipment of Live Color XXL 87 Mystic Violet to arrive.

23rd January 2013 09

Despite their height, these heels are meant for walking.

23rd January 2013 12

Styled the hair differently too, less curly, more wavy.  Which do you prefer?  Straight?  Super ramen curly?  Or this look?

23rd January 2013 10

Spiked Cuff is Black Leather and from Etsy.  Can’t remember the name of the store, though.

And so endeth my visual soliloquy on sartorial sense and sensibilities.  Cough.  Well, tell me what you think.  Be honest.  I can take it like a man.

p/s Ok, so I kinda enjoyed how it all turned out.  Kinda.  Shhh.

And we’re lucky too, to bear witness to your witty genius.

p/s all pieces available from the Paul Smith online store.

The IFB (Independent Fashion Bloggers) current challenge for menswear-inspired ensembles had my mind churning, reflecting the various possibilities.  I’m putting together some outfits as we speak/read/chat for said challenge but for now, here are some of my fave picks.

3.1 Philip Lim Floral Corded Silk Biket Jacket

And you thought Phillip Lim couldn’t do romance.  Pshaw.  This is his take on the Biker Jacket.  The somewhat austere lines of the garment contrast beautifully with the fragility of the delicate print.  An investment piece $1,195.

Biyan Embroidered Crystal Embellished Canvas Jacket

What do you get when you pair durable Canvas with opulent crystals as well as delicate embroidery??  This irrefutably plush Jacket from Biyan with divine oversized poof sleeves and a hint of a boxy line.  Darling!!  An investment indeed $1,562.

Burberry Brit Cotton-Blend Peplum Jacket

Burberry continues to do no wrong, at least not in my eyes.  This fabulous utilitarian Jacket is given a makeover with a ruffled Peplum effect (genius) and zip-fastening pockets (brilliant).  Must-have $650.

Chalayan Cotton-Blend Sateen White Neon Jacket

Who doesn’t adore a burst of colour onto virginal white?  Chalayan marries the two to effervescent delight in this Tuxedo Jacket.  Fashioned from Cotton-Blend Sateen, the purity of the bodice proffers the perfect backdrop for Neon Mesh Lapels.  Delightful indulgence $2,655.

Clover Canyon Printed Crepe de Chine Bomber Jacket

Clover Canyon’s oh so clever Printed Crepe de Chine Bomber Jacket.  Such a flurry of details and abstract movement captured into one very versatile piece.  Truly affordable too at $275.

Donna Karan Metallic Boucle Peplum Jacket

The Queen of classics, Donna Karan, does not fail us with this chic Metallic bouclé peplum jacket.  Woven from shimmering ribbons with a silk fringe, this is a statement piece.  Splurge $2,695.

Isabel Marant Leather Trimmed Tweed Jacket

Quintessential Parisian chic describes this Leather Trimmed Tweed Jacket to a tee.  Isabel Marant shows a deft hand in both structure and finish, to create a timeless piece.  A solid investment $1,335.

Vivienne Westwood Anglomania Acid Green Textured Jacquard Blazer

I love you Dame Westwood!!!  So much going on here in this Anglomania Trot Textured Acid Jacquard Blazer but it works!!!  Sharp shoulders and nipped waist make for a thoroughly empowering silhouette.  Affordably coveted $745.

Sophie Hulme Gold-Plated Cotton-Drill Military Jacket

Sophie Hulme’s Gold-Plated Navy Cotton Military Jacket makes me feel like I’m pulling a Madonna without having to take my clothes off.  I mean, c’mon, look where those Gold-Plated accents are placed ~ insert cheeky grin.  A definite keeper $700.

Are you riding the menswear-inspired bandwagon?

I am very very VERY excited to share the news that yours truly will be attending the IFB Conference in New York City come early February!!  Right smack in the middle of Fashion Week too!!!

So, being from the tropics and now living in Houston, I’m asking for tips and tricks from y’all on how to brave and survive Winter with style and panache.  To kickstart the process, I’ve, ahem, acquired these “necessities”.

60's Mod Plaid Red and Black REVERSIBLE Cape Preppy School Girl CloakBraided Shrugvtg 60s REVERSIBLE LEOPARD print CAPE os mod coat jacket outerwearKitty CatSpace Rabbit Tee

(from the top) Vintage 60s Reversible Mod Plaid Cape from Gypsies Rising, ultra avant garde Braided Shrug from Celapiu (love this sister duo design team), Vintage 70s Reversible Camel+Leopard Cape from Tiger Lily Frocks, and Vintage Space Bunny Tee from My Like Zoo of Hong Kong (ok, so this was an indulgence).

I’ve also got the scarf and the puffy jacket and the super thick boots and ear muffs and gloves.

What am I missing???

C’mon, ye worldly travellers and NYorkers alike, won’t you help a lass from Borneo who’s making her virgin foray into the Big Apple during the coldest time of the year?

Sue me :D

B&W White ShiftFox de Luxe ScarfFaux Leather & Crochet BagVelvet Mirror Wedge Booties

(from top to bottom) B&W Silk Chiffon Shift from Luminaa, just an incredible work of art in the form of a Felted Fox de Luxe Scarf from Celapiu, an avant garde Faux Black Leather with Crochet Bag from the talented hands of VandH; and, BE STILL MY BEATING HEART, a visual feast from Nortin, shoe gods from Greece, purveyors of custom-made opulence for the feet.

And just so you know, I’m adding all these to my list of I’LL DIE BEFORE I DON’T PURCHASE THESE pieces for 2013.

Love, SG

Life’s little surprises has brought me into the wonder realm of two really cool designers from Latvia, Inga and Irena, who collectively fabricate some of the most quirky and whimsical and charming garments ever.  You can view their pieces here.

I’ve long admired their work yet for some (unfathomable) reason, bit the bullet just a few months ago.  This piece is one of them.  Please ignore the quasi Titanic pose.  I have NO idea why I did that.

Meet Cake Boy, a poncho cum tunic cum top cum wearable-fantasy-come-true.  He’s this fitted tunic thingy, tapering into a slim, sharp silhouette, and made ever so billowy with the addition of those voluminous sleeves.  Totally ABBA.

I felt these Velvet Heel Booties in SCREAMING FIRE ENGINE RED with spikes and studs were the only pair worthy of Cake Boy.  And yes, there are those ever faithful Yoga Pants from Nike ~ again.  Yes, I wear ‘em all the time because they’re comfort personified (and rather flattering too, I must say).  And yes, I do change my pants but you see, I own five pairs of these, and rotate them regularly, so, yeah.

I meant to braid my hair for this get-up but I completely forgot.

IMG_6414 IMG_6426

Sometimes I tire of hair smelling like well done steak and leave my hair straight.

Here’s a better look at those booties.    And, it would seem, the mosquito bites up my calf.  Oy.

My cherry red bunny ears phone case.  So tacky, it’s cool.  The only other accessory in the mix is an edgy Red Leather cuff with gold spikes and accents.

Which do you prefer ~ straight locks or curly tresses?

Love, SG

p/s By the by, who else is attending the IFB Conference in New York City come early February?

pp/s Yes, the cast is off :)

ppp/s The hair’s no longer red, incidentally, I’ve since dyed it a Warm Burgundy, just to shake things up a bit.
