Fabulous Eats, Fantastic Times

When yours is a family comprised of 3 children (aged 20, 17, 16) and two adults of varying gastronomical preferences (I’m from Borneo, he’s from Southern Italy), eating out can be quite the challenge. Particularly when it comes to special occasions – birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas Eve, that sort of thing. It’s usually my man who proposes a few options and together, we pick one.  The problem with that arrangement is he often forgets to make reservations until a few days prior, and you don’t toy with ginormous days like New Year’s Eve. You just don’t. It bites you in the buttocks, most viciously, I might add. Let’s just say I wasn’t looking forward to a repeat of 2012 and 2013, and decided I’d be the one to shop around for a place to celebrate New Year’s Eve. I know it sounds trivial, petty even, but this is where things get complicated. The oldest does not like seafood much tends to change his eating preferences every week, the middle doesn’t eat anything with a shell (nor …

The Rainbow Lodge

A few days ago, I reviewed my 2013 resolutions (yes yes, I skipped a year) and documented my progress. Now, I’d like to talk about a less abstract objective, that being how I want my style to evolve this year. For one, there are a few things I swore I’d never try but (shudder) I shall in 2015. Or die trying. Or endure a penalty not as physically taxing but no less painful. Hence the birth of a new column I shall baptise as What Would Sheela Wear (WWSW). Here’s where I walk the tightrope of reality. Teeter, on occasion, but not fall. Be a little costumey even. It’s where I shrug off all fraudulent pretense of “this old rag? I just threw it together without a thought”, and go on character trips through fashion. Today’s debut What Would Sheela Wear segment highlights what I wore to New Year’s Eve Dinner at the Rainbow Lodge. This is a gorgeous, palatial-esque log cabin, 100 years old, sprawled across an acre of grounds. Imagine a luxurious snow …

Just Another Day

When I woke up this morning, I wasn’t certain if I was supposed to feel something different. It was, afterall, the second day of a brand new year. And, in truth, I felt precisely the same as I had 24, no, 48 hours before that. How different things were when I was a child. Then, the air was simply electric with excitement. Palpable, even. What changed? As is often the case with other sensory capabilities, have we become blasé with age? That said, I wasn’t quite in the mood for deep, philosophical thoughts. Nor did I feel at all inclined to pen a “serious” post. Instead, I thought it’d bode much better to kickstart 2015 with an outfit post 🙂 Such frivolity, you say. And why ever not? Oftentimes, lighthearted fun is the best gift we can give ourselves. Nothing deep. No requirement whatsoever of prolonged thought. Fashion is just that (or it ought to be). It’s not something you need to ponder and agonise over. It’s an outward manifestation of one’s personality and should …

Starting 2015 With A Bang

Nothing quite like beginning a new year with some media ink and this is precisely what just happened to me, all thanks to IFB. So cool. So pleased. So grinning from ear to ear. My piece is the one highlighted in purple but here’s a shortcut. Let me know what you think? I firmly believe that style isn’t age exclusive. Women of all ages really need to be more vocal (or visual) in sharing what they feel beautiful wearing, don’t you think? Happy New Year! If you’re still in your pajamas, you’re not alone. Take it easy today, the holidays are officially over. You can start your resolutions tomorrow, but if you’re at a loss as to what to resolute, check out these links from IFB’s most dedicated members!
