The Fab 40s In Gingham

Gingham comes from the Malaysian word Genggam meaning stripes. Well, I’m Malaysian. And no, I had absolutely no idea. Clearly, I can be completely clueless at times.   I’m not certain how it’s pulling things off that smoothly but has anyone else noticed how gingham manages to be all at once utterly all-American yet evocative of the South of France, particularly during those beachy, carefree moments of the ’50s/’60s? I mean, seriously, think the picnic print and both Dorothy as well as Bardot come to mind, yes? Despite a somewhat retro appeal, gingham is undeniably enjoying quite the revival these days. From runways to real life, and everything in between, the pattern appears to be making a massive comeback, and I’m not complaining. Especially when right after Dawn Lucy chose gingham as this month’s theme for The Fab 40s, I discovered this spectacular pair of heels in Blue and White, yes, gingham!! I didn’t really need an excuse to wear them but hey, any reason to shop for a matching dress was very welcomed. Ahem. …
