The Fab 40s In Lace

Am I the only woman in the world who doesn’t own a single item of White (or Cream) Lace. I mean, I thought I did, but apparently I didn’t.

Or so it appeared at the very beginning.

You can, therefore, imagine my consternation when the deadline for The Fab 40s series drew close (as in the day before) and I hadn’t gotten my act outfit together. Naturally, I went into panic mode. What’s a woman to do?

Rummage. That’s what.

And rummage I did until I found this charming little Lace Top, in white, with a beautifully beaded collar. Success.

Yes, I do smile. Sometimes.

My second pair of Joggers, also from Forever 21. It seemed the perfect complementary piece to the intricacy (and somewhat busy details) of that Lace top. And by the by, I’ve been dying to wear those heels for the longest time.

Snakeskin Ring is from Karla Deras while Snakeskin Cuff is from Unearthed on Etsy. I have a thing for exotic skins, if you haven’t noticed that by now. My adorable B&W Polka Dot Clutch is from ellebee206, you can find her on Instagram, a treasure trove of, well, treasures.

And that’s me, taking on Lace.  How did I do? Be gentle?

Take a look at how my lovely ladies styled their Lace. Don’t they all look spiffy and stunning?

My personal fave?  Definitely Dixie’s take on the theme. Edgy and sleek and crisp. Jane’s outfit is a close second, the epitome of comfy chic with a little rock n roll (did you see the studs on her shoes??).

Tell me, do you have a closet-full of lacey bits?  And no, inners don’t count 😉

  1. Wow I love how you paired that lace top with those pants! Such a great way to balance the delicate lace, I’ll have to try that combo out one day 🙂 Also those heels are killer xx

    1. Thank you SO much!!! Lace is SUCH a feminine, girly concoction and those aren’t words normally associated with my style so I needed something to up the quotient a tad 🙂

    1. I’m SO not a fan of lace LOL can’t stand it. Reminds me of Miss Havisham and mothballs and dust. I know I know, that’s so not true but there you have it 🙂

  2. Sheela, I love how your top is peek-a-boo sexy. It’s when you look close that you see how lacey your top really is with that bandeau on underneath. I like that! Makes ya look!

Sheela, where did you end up finding the top? I know you dug deep, but when did you get the top? Where? What’s the story behind it? (You know me…;) It is lovely! And all the details accentuate the edge in you that I love!

    1. Hahahaha!!! Trust you to be the one to detect that white bra thingy 🙂 it’s a stretchy bandeau from Brandy Melville and I love how useful it’s become. As for the top, well, I took it from my Poshmark closet inventory (shhh) and there you have it. GRIN GRIN and TRIPLE GRIN xoxoxo

    1. LOL yes it wouldn’t be a Sheela look without heels 🙂 thanks, Jess, it was truly serendipitous. The top was in my hands, the pants were at the very top of my reject pile (from a previous shoot), and voila.

      1. That works! MUCH Better than how my hubby can pick out clothes, which is , pick it out, and say ” Does this smell today?” 🙂 x

  3. You really nailed the lace top. Love the detail on the collar, and the right amount of see through that you’re giving us. Ok, on to those shoes. The Bomb! Stunning as always…xo

  4. I thought I had commented on this post, but apparently I just looked. According to me, you did very well on wearing lace. Combining it with jeans. That is what I also did. There needs to be some balance for the frilliness and romance. The shoes are awesome!!

  5. You are rocking this look! So cool. Am I nerdy to say ‘rocking’? But that’s what it looks like to me. Funny what we can find in our wardrobes if we really look isn’t it? Or scary? I found you on Not Dressed as Lamb and am really happy to be your latest follower (as of the minute I write, I am sure you’ll have twenty more before you read this!) Look forward to seeing more from you. Thanks!
