My Story

Houston, It’s Been Quite The Ride   As some of you already know, I come from Kuching, the capital city of Sarawak in East Malaysia, and that I took off when I was 22 years old. A little while ago, the Editor-in-Chief of KINO (Kuching In And Out) approached me, asking if I’d be interested to contribute to their column, Ex-CAT which is a monthly, featuring bylines from Kuchingites who are either still living abroad or have spent many years outside of the country. Naturally, I was delighted, and now that the story’s out, I wanted to share it with you 🙂 I left Kuching in 1995, on my father’s birthday, to be precise. I was incredibly sad and scared, and excited and exhilarated. On one hand, I was leaving the safety net of my parents and the home I’d known for over two decades. But on the other hand, I couldn’t wait to go. I felt stifled, like a stranger in my own hometown, and in my heart, I knew that leaving was the …

Everything’s Just Peachy

I’m writing this post from my room at the Hilton Manhattan East. I’ve just had a productive (if somewhat IT and gadget-challenging day) and feeling alright with the universe. It does make me think though, how things would be if the world weren’t running quite as efficiently. Imagining the chaos an absence of connectivity would create. The absolute discord in our lives should technology no longer exist. Good lord, I’m already quacking. So my tale of tech (or the lack thereof) has absolutely nothing to do with what I’m wearing and I’d be a fool to attempt creating any kind of a link so I shan’t 🙂 I can honestly say, though, that I’ve been dying to wear something off-the-shoulder for a bit now therefore unearthing this peach top in my closet was truly like manna from heaven. I kept the accoutrements within the same palette, topped with some black for contrast. My love for plaid knows no boundaries and continues unabated with this striking leather piece from Zara. And a new obsession for sunnies …

Woman In White

I’m not sure how I feel about this outfit. On one hand, I love the crisp feel of a white shift paired with pops of colour. And on the other hand, shapeless garments aren’t precisely the best option for my current steroid-pumped state. I did, however, have loads oodles and doodles (and noodles) of fun posing for this post. I felt pumped and stoked. I suppose, then, that I do actually quite like this ensemble. And, why yes, this was what I wore on Independence Day. Hear me out though. I do think this isn’t too in-your-face-screaming-colours-of-the-flag and could easily pass off as a regular ensemble. I finally remembered to wear my brand new White Snakeskin Cuff, with a very special Honeycomb motif. Is it not just glorious? And a picture perfect pristine traffic-stopper in its own right which is the reason why it’s the only accoutrement I chose for my wrist this time around. Lipstick is Barbeque from the MAC Toledo line. And this clutch here, it’s SO beautiful and bold and blue. Snakeskin …

Keeping It In Clutch Mode: A Giveaway

Once upon a time, clutches and I, we did not get along. There was no connection. No bond. No love. I found them cumbersome and restrictive. They found me far too straitlaced to do them justice and that was perfectly fine by me. I was used to have little shoulder bags that allowed me freedom and range of motion. Call it a byproduct of parenting, if you will. Then my man bought me my very first clutch and I fell head over heels in love. He couldn’t have picked a better first than this glorious piece from Zara (please forgive me for the poor quality of this picture, at the time I was still learning how to use my iPhone as a camera). It spoke to me on every possible level from colour to size to message, and remains a firm fave to this day 🙂 since then, I’ve amassed a few. Rebecca Minkoff (it’s autographed too, beneath the flap, I’m such a groupie) Leather, Sequins & Tassel (from ellebee206) Boohoo.com (this website is full …

Friday Picks: Orange Lipsticks

When it comes to lipstick colours, Pink is my Nude. It’s my go-to colour for most occasions. I tend to paint it red when I’m intending to paint the town red ergo the connection. Corals and Oranges, however, are foreign territory to me. I associate those two shades with being in limbo where colour is concerned because they’re neither quite here nor quite there. Does that make sense? Given all that, it’s Summer. It’s Resort Wear season. That time of the year when Oranges and Corals dominate alongside Reds, both in terms of outfits as well as accessories and all the other necessary accoutrements which make up a successful outfit. I was, therefore, determined to give the zesty hues a go. All things said and done, thanks to the rain finally stopping (yes, Texas, it’s Summer, when the sun shines?), I’ve been able to enjoy some pool time and acquire a slight tan which I adore but, in the context of finding that right dollop of Orange, has proved rather challenging. Why is that, you …

Because I’ve Been A Fake & In Other News, Lace Is My Summer Must-Have

I owe each and every single one of you an apology. I really do.   Of late, I’ve fallen out of love with clothes and styling myself, and it’s shown in the way I’ve thrown things together. There’s been an absolute lack of creativity and passion in the outfits I’ve worn. Nothing looks effortless (save maybe that red dress), and I’m nowhere near enjoying myself. Life has taken a huge toll and you’ve been paying the price for that. You shouldn’t need to and for that, I am really really sorry. No matter what’s been going on in my personal life, fashion and clothes should always be a form of stress relief. A detox, if you like. Something I do to maintain my sanity and have fun. Always with loads of fun. When the fun is no longer apparent, that’s when I know I need to step away and re-evaluate. Which is precisely what I did and it, in turn, led me to come to the conclusion that I’ve been shortchanging you. I’ve been faking …
