The Fab 40s In Menswear

Menswear motifs are having a moment, so I’ve been told. In my books, however, clothing inspired by menswear was never really a fad. More of a constant presence, adapted with the thoughtful use of accents (be they feminine, colour-related blah blah blah) to make them relevant, fresh, now. So our little tag-you’re-it-style-game did a full round robin and it was my turn yet again to pick a theme for The Fab 40s, I went a little boy-crazy. Well I did not theoretically use anything “borrowed from the boys” (my husband wears a Size 15 1/2 in shirts and my sons are both over 6 feet tall), I did manage to find some rather amazing things in my closet (and Eve’s, shhhh). As you can see, I did my level best to address the time old question, “how to wear masculine pieces in a chic and feminine way”, and injected multiple infusions of whimsy and quirk a la Sheela. This adorable button-down?  Every bit of vintage from the lovely la la land of Hong Kong. Isn’t …

Baby’s Got Blue Eyes

Once upon a time, there lived a girl by the name of Sheela who rather enjoyed going to school for several reasons. One, she genuinely adored English and History and Art, and, being the granddaughter of the school’s recently retired principal, she was treated (oh let’s just say) with extra special care. That year, 1985, the last year of elementary school, there was a trainee teacher on board. Enthused and young and not yet jaded, said trainee decided that the perfects would, gasp, do a cheerleader-esquire Pom Pom Dance for Teacher’s Day. Oy. I kid you not. So, we practiced and rehearsed and trained our butts off. The big day arrived and we were beyond thrilled when Miss Trainee said she’d also be doing our hair and make-up. That is until we realised …

The Fab 40s In Leopard Print

Am I late with this post or what. Technically speaking, leopard prints were meant to dot my blog from top to toe and everywhere in between, last month, but instead, here we are, right smack in the first week of August and I’m still speaking about those spots. I could very easily blame my tardiness on my newly acquired frequent traveller role. Indeed, I could. And I’m rather leaning towards that. I have, after all, been living out of suitcases for the past 4 weeks, with another fortnight to go. But I’ll play nice. And I’ll apologise from the very bottom of my heart because my timing is way off 🙂 by a month and three continents. It has been quite the adventurous time, I’m telling you. First I was in NYC then in Chicago then off to Melbourne then to Kuala Lumpur, and, now, Kuching. Enough of my pseudo jet-setting adventures (I have to save those for another post) and more on the Fab 40s. You know who we are; Ann, Dawn Lucy, Dixie, …
