It can get rather irksome trying to predict the weather during Fall in Houston.
One can never tell if it’ll be hot or if it’ll be chilly.
And, more often than not, temperatures tend to soar with the rising sun so if you’ve started the day in a plush wooly sweater, I’m so sorry. Dressing for Fall and Winter here is rather like pretending you’re an Ogre (read: Shrek, stench and burps are optional) and you have layers to peel as the weather warms up (or pile on as it gets nippy). It took me two years (and very many uncomfortable situations) to learn that.
First lesson, wear an undershirt. Be it something concealed or one which you fully intend to flaunt, the point of an undershirt extends beyond aesthetics. It’s pivotal in maintaining a consistent body temperature (as do socks), as I’ve learned, under some very harsh circumstances. Furthermore, should it warm up, all I need do is remove the sweater and I’m still decently covered.
The sweater is a light one. Cotton. With Gold Spikes on one shoulder. Plenty of visual interest. And those jeans. Leopard print and stretchy. I’ve learned (also the hard way) that leggings and yoga pants are simply useless when it comes to warmth. Jeans, on the other hand, go a long way towards keeping me as snug as a bug in a rug.
Feet. The most important part of the equation. Keep your feet warm and covered, and you’ll be alright. I scoffed when I first heard that. What a fool I was. It makes perfect sense. Just think of the underlying rule of reflexology and it’ll all make sense. Every warm layer you put on the body will be for naught if your feet aren’t warm, and because of that, I’ve traded in those faux contraptions for genuine Leather boots (or booties, in this case) which provide the perfect insulation.
And that’s how you dress for Fall here in Houston 🙂 how is it where you are?
Love, Sheela

I LOVE THIS OUTFIT! And, I can totally relate. Hong Kong is barely chilling down. Like barely. But, we’re all gearing up for it anyway. Granted I’m in jean shorts right now as I write, BUT I am also wearing a little jacket over my graphic tee. You got it right: it’s all about light layering and keeping the feet warm. And whoa, yours must be HOT in those HAUTE shoes!!
Love you Sheela! Thanks for linking up to my Style Stories!

That’s precisely how it’s been here in Houston this week, Betsy. Nice and cool in the morning, but by the time it’s 11ish, the sweat starts dripping. Then today, the weather decided to play a trick on us because around 2pm, the sky was ink black, winds were blowing and rain was falling. Oy.

That is how our weather here in VA is and while a part of me likes it, it doesn’t help with layering like you mentioned. Cute way of layering and boots. Thanks for linking up to “Bloggers Who Have Inspire Me.”

I totally agree about layers this time of the year. It’s finally starting to get chilly in the morning but super hot by the time luck rolls around. Those bodies are so fun!
