We keep repeating the mantra that fashion ought to be, above all, fun.
And playful. A true representation of our personalities.
But too often I find myself hiding behind tried and tested formulas, sticking closely to what’s been proved instead of sticking my neck out, you know, exploring new territory.
Does that tend to happen to you too?
I have the greatest of admiration for those who flirt unabashedly with print and pattern, all perfectly put together in the name of go bold or go home.
Catherine puts together seemingly improbable combinations with a masterful hand. Ann boldly goes where many of us dare not and does so with blatant joy. Sacramento Amate or, as she’s more popularly known, Mis Papelicos, attacks loud prints in even louder colours with gusto and electic chic. Also, I would be completely remiss if I failed to mention Kirsten and her knack for pairing graphic prints with strong colours to create striking outfits that make you wonder why you’d never thought of them yourself. And there’s Samantha, a newly discovered gem who dabbles in colour, print, texture, with absolute panache.
These ladies put the B in Bold, for reals.
In the name of #iwillwearwhatilike and adhering to the theme of Bold Pattern, I must have gone through everything in my wardrobe (as I believe the mountains of rejects on my bedroom floor and the husband’s gasps of horror would attest) before settling on these pieces.
Let me preface by admitting to a newly discovered affection for Electric Blue. In fact, I’ll be the first to own up to hating blue for the longest time. Yes, it’s true. No matter the shade, blue and I just weren’t meant to be. Until this year, and I’m glad.
Plaid and Polka Dots and Graphic Shoes. Red-tipped tresses. Big floppy hat.
Did I do Bold Pattern right?
Will I go this bold again? Probably. Will I be mixing prints up again? Very likely. Although it does take extra work to prep and plan (which isn’t a bad thing at all, I’ve been flying by the seat of my pants far too often, for far too long), I thoroughly enjoyed how this outfit/shoot turned out.
The look is so much more exciting than what I typically put together and I rather like that.
Love, Sheela

Wowza on the boots!
I’m a pattern junkie. The more colour, pattern, boldness the better.
I’m surprised you don’t wear patterns more often. They suit you.

I love electric blue! and I am glad you do too now! Here’s the big question: have you embraced electric blue mascara yet Sheela?! Oooh!! It’s so fun!! I highly recommend NYX’s if you decide to embrace this vibrant color on your lashes too.
I love this bold look–plaid and polka dots plus alliteration! ;D
Thanks for linking up dear Sheela!

I have indeed, my friend 🙂 I wore only Electric Blue Mascara (from Maybelline) from 1995 to 2000!! Can you believe that? I’m not sure if I want to go back to that anymore though. My lashes are so wispy and thin that anything save Black renders them almost invisible, damn Asian genes.

I couldn’t talk about bold prints and colours, and pattern mixing without mentioning you, Kirsten. How could I possibly 🙂 we ought to start a polka dot club which meets (via blog posts) once a month or something GRIN

I’ve long admired your deft hand in working with print and bold colours with nary a hint of garishness, Kirsten. It’s a skill I covet even as I appreciate GRIN not many of us are able to pair the unexpected and in such strong palettes too. Thank you for opening my eyes to different, unusual combinations, my friend 🙂 xoxo
