Monday Mix (First of 2013 And I’m Late)

Sue me 😀 (from top to bottom) B&W Silk Chiffon Shift from Luminaa, just an incredible work of art in the form of a Felted Fox de Luxe Scarf from Celapiu, an avant garde Faux Black Leather with Crochet Bag from the talented hands of VandH; and, BE STILL MY BEATING HEART, a visual feast from Nortin, shoe gods from Greece, purveyors of custom-made opulence for the feet. And just so you know, I’m adding all these to my list of I’LL DIE BEFORE I DON’T PURCHASE THESE pieces for 2013. Love, SG

I Love You, Cake Boy

Life’s little surprises has brought me into the wonder realm of two really cool designers from Latvia, Inga and Irena, who collectively fabricate some of the most quirky and whimsical and charming garments ever.  You can view their pieces here. I’ve long admired their work yet for some (unfathomable) reason, bit the bullet just a few months ago.  This piece is one of them.  Please ignore the quasi Titanic pose.  I have NO idea why I did that. Meet Cake Boy, a poncho cum tunic cum top cum wearable-fantasy-come-true.  He’s this fitted tunic thingy, tapering into a slim, sharp silhouette, and made ever so billowy with the addition of those voluminous sleeves.  Totally ABBA. I felt these Velvet Heel Booties in SCREAMING FIRE ENGINE RED with spikes and studs were the only pair worthy of Cake Boy.  And yes, there are those ever faithful Yoga Pants from Nike ~ again.  Yes, I wear ’em all the time because they’re comfort personified (and rather flattering too, I must say).  And yes, I do change my pants …

Acquisitions, Acquisitions, Acquisitions

Let me clarify that I am NOT a brand snob.  Nope, nope, nope.  I love and covet, with equal levels of lust, both indie labels as well as haute couture treasures.  And, let’s be honest, most of us can’t afford to dish out that sort of money for luxury pieces, even as we continue to live in hope.  Which is why the accessibility proffered by the likes of Etsy and eBay are priceless beyond, well, price tags. This authentic and genuinely amazing Vintage Vivienne Westwood Anglomania Denim Jacket was a gift from my man for Christmas. So too this glorious Fabric + Snakeskin + Crocodile Bag from Cavalli.  I am blessed to have married someone who understands and indulges in my “hoarding”.  Both the Westwood and Cavalli were purchased here. Now this beautiful Isabel Marant Mesh Tank Dress isn’t vintage but it’s gorgeous and so versatile.  Can you believe this is my very first garment from the House of Marant?  Yes, I am hanging my head in shame.  Purchased from a diehard aficionado of IM …

2012 ~ Rewind, Recap, Review

This is the time of the year when many a blogger would post a montage of her (or his) personal favourites spanning 2012.  Since I’ve only been at this for a scant two months, I’ve barely sufficient outfit posts to fill up a week let alone encapsulate an entire year SO I’m taking an entirely different route to this.  I’m going to feature the outfits I like best from twelve random bloggers.  Some are a tad more hyped than the others, and certainly their aesthetics run the gamut but all are irrefutably talented and adventurous and most deserving of limelight. So here we go, in no particular order:- Adeline Rapon pulls off mixed prints with panache which, oftentimes (but not always), only the French can display.  Her style is so distinct and whimsical yet not so out there that I can’t imagine myself wearing parts of the outfit, or, the outfit in its entirety, for that matter.  And there’s also just a nuance of vintage that makes her fashion compositions so fresh (contradictory, I know). …

Monday Mix (Final Line-Up Of Frou Frou For 2012)

Ah, to own even a single item from this week’s Monday Mix.  Le sigh.  Le sigh of infinite bliss. Love, SG p/s I’m the proud owner of four garments from the genius known as Tiina who’s the brains behind Lumme Designs. pp/s My next buy?  That cuff.  Oh yeah so don’t try sneaking it away from you.  I got mah eye on you.

Monday Mix

(left to right) Marc Jacobs Silk-Faille Top, Clements Ribeiro Printed Silk Skirt, Moschino Cheap & Chic Ruffled Silk Coat, Louboutin Metallic Gold Leather Booties. This entire ensemble is absolutely NOTHING I’ve ever worn in my entire life.  Nope, not even the boots because mine are all, err, super high?  Should I consider incorporating some lower heels?  What about you?  What kind of shoes do you prefer? Love, SG

The Steadfast Tin Soldier & The Love Skull

Once upon a time, quite a few years ago, a little Chinese girl from Borneo sat alongside her older brother and listened enraptured as their mother read to them aloud, a tale from Hans Christian Andersen ~ The Ballerina & The Steadfast Tin Soldier. Fast forward close to three and half decades later, and that story has stayed with me.  Perhaps it’s because of the underlying note of self-sacrifice, doom and tragedy which are not characteristic of children’s stories.  The absence of white picket fences and happy ever afters.  And, of course, that subtle nuance of desire as well as passion which had, prior to that, been completely lacking from any Andersen composition.                                                                                                                             …

Circling The Issue

My post titles are becoming increasingly corny.  Sigh. Nothing too avant garde nor adventurous here.  Just serviceable classic pieces given fresh twists with cut, colour and finish.  And the proverbial accessory.  All in the name of grocery shopping. A charming (dark brown) polka dotted button down shirt in the most delightful shade of Dusky Rose, quite likely my favourite shade of pink.  Worn with intense violet skinny jeans and supremely spiked ankle booties.  I have those in practically every shade.  Don’t tell the man. The sweetest of pachyderm arm candy. Do you like seeing spots? Love, SG

(Inter)Stellar Intentions

So that we’re clear, I had every stellar intention to post these pictures when they were taken which would be, ahem, two Sundays ago.  C’mon, it’s been a rollercoaster fortnight 🙂 anyways, I “did” take photos of a week’s worth of outfits and will be uploading them across the next few days.  Pinkie promise.  Ish. I was also determined to make this more than a fluff piece, you know, but I think that’s what we’re getting for today.  My train of thought has been derailed, if the wheels were ever set in motion in the first instance.  Oy. Now, we all know that the devil’s in the details and therefore, the procession of pieces put together for this post (quasi tongue twister) is comprised of ~ a Mace Brown Shrug thingy which is older than Eve.  Yes it is.  Purchased in Singapore circa 1996.  And I said Mace because it’s that time of the year and I rather fancy the scent of Mace. Over, no, under this brown sugarness is a glorious dress of galactic …

Coram Boy, VPL & The Scent Of A Woman

This post is long overdue and I mean looooong overdue.  My oldest, R, plays the viola (he switched from violin this year) and is part of his school orchestra.  During the Texas Thespians Festival, we were honoured to not just host theatre students from the Fort Bend Independent School District, R was also part of the accompanying orchestra for Coram Boy.  Granted (I felt that) it was an overtly dragged out production but on a whole, Coram Boy a la Texas wasn’t too shabby 🙂 I have deciphered a thing or two about outfit posts ~ either I need more generic locations or I need to expand my repertoire of locations for shoots.  I must investigate which expressions work for and against me, without coming across as too much of a drag queen on a bad day.  And I must ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS check for VPL from all ways and angles.  Dang. That’s one of the loveliest neckpieces I own. A vintage perfume bottle concoction, previously owned by Jane Aldridge. I love me those ankle …
