Put A Bow On It

Should you think bows and feathers, I’d be the very last person to come to mind.   And rightly so. Growing up, whenever my mum tried to pretty my ponytails or pigtails with ribbons, I’d snip them off as soon as her back was turned.  That same rule applied to my wardrobe.  Were there any laces or ruffles or trims or bows, a wee snippity snip, and they’d vanish.  Really, really.  Of course, being only 6 or 7 at the time, there were moments of miscalculation which inevitably resulted in what I shall forever lay claim to be strategically placed holes in my clothes.  Poor mum.  She’d wring her hands in despair even as my dad chuckled at the rabid ferocity with which I attacked those decorative binds and ties. Given such a premise, it’s no surprise that over the past 4 decades, I’ve steered very far away from adornments of this nature and given them the widest of berths. Particularly when you recall how vocal I’ve been on the concept of looking cute. Are …

Keeping It In Clutch Mode: A Giveaway

Once upon a time, clutches and I, we did not get along. There was no connection. No bond. No love. I found them cumbersome and restrictive. They found me far too straitlaced to do them justice and that was perfectly fine by me. I was used to have little shoulder bags that allowed me freedom and range of motion. Call it a byproduct of parenting, if you will. Then my man bought me my very first clutch and I fell head over heels in love. He couldn’t have picked a better first than this glorious piece from Zara (please forgive me for the poor quality of this picture, at the time I was still learning how to use my iPhone as a camera). It spoke to me on every possible level from colour to size to message, and remains a firm fave to this day 🙂 since then, I’ve amassed a few. Rebecca Minkoff (it’s autographed too, beneath the flap, I’m such a groupie) Leather, Sequins & Tassel (from ellebee206) Boohoo.com (this website is full …

Graphic Gloriousness

It’s been a while, I know. I haven’t been able to sit down at the laptop and write. My mind has been very distracted by all the health issues that decided to afflict visit me. I suppose that’s understandable but still not an excuse so here I am, back and ready to rock n roll 🙂 And what better for a comeback than strong, graphic lines?  In Black and White, no less. A visual spread of prints. It’s stripes and snakeskin and geometric all rolled into one #ootd, and actually looking quite decent. For the face, I used Too Faced’s Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar with lipstick from Dita Von Teese. I love love love that Derek Lam Snakeskin Clutch. Anyone else notice that I’m holding it back to front in the picture above???  Sigh. Gwen Stefani can do no wrong when it comes to boots, and this pair just happens to be one I reach for quite frequently.  Do you blame me? What about you?  What’s the one item in your closet you reach for …
