The Fab 40s Pair Florals With Plaid

Pattern mixing galore. Pairing seemingly disparate motifs.   I’ve come a long way from being petrified of the mere mention of prints. There was a time when putting even a speck of red into an all Black garment meant utter chaos and disruption, let alone introducing anything remotely non solid into my outfit.   Even on those rare occasions when I was neither in Ebony nor Ivory, I would still pick one single block of colour to showcase.  I mean, I was perfectly comfortable with shine and glitz and colour on hair and/or lips (or on my feet) but somehow, on the body, it was just. not. me.  Then. When I began my foray into the world of patterns, I (naturally) began with my beloved B&W. Cautiously, ever so cautiously, I ventured into two prints.  Just two.  Subtle ones.  Nothing too clashing, same family (or same colour story).  I even achieved one allover print.  Or does that not count because it’s, ahem, black with white? 2016 and half of 2017 were very colourless.  From every …

Ebb & Flow

Words, I mean. Sometimes they ebb and flow.   It’s one of those days when my brain feels empty, and I don’t know what to say.  Does that happen to you too?  Because it hardly, if ever, happens to me.  Writing is something that flows.  A part of me which I’ve always been able to reply upon.  It’s not something I need to overthink.  It never lets me down, but today, tonight, at this precise moment, absolutely nothing is happening. MY MIND FEELS NUMB. And that isn’t normal. I could chalk it down to insomnia the night before, and tossing, turning until around 3am.  Sleep deprivation isn’t fun and can be a buzz creativity killer.  I doubt it’s that though.  Insomnia has plagued me since my early teens and I’ve always been able to function in spite of it.  You know what’s funny though?  The more I keep talking about why I have nothing to write, the more I’m actually finding something to write about. Isn’t it ironic?  Don’t you think? I’ve been reflecting on …

Of Words & Waistlines

What is she talking about?? Where’s the correlation between the two?   Allow me to explain. There are blogs which feature the prettiest of pictures, the most stylish of looks, and hardly anything else at all.  Perhaps a sprinkling of words, scattered in a seemingly sporadic fashion but which are, on the contrary, strategically placed to encourage impulse clicks purchases all in the name of affiliate marketing.  Which tickles your fancy the most?  Are you a look, see and move on sort of reader?  Or do you buy into the substance (or cringe at the lack thereof) of a well-written post? I’m personally rather partial to a piece which contains more than jpegs, no matter how beautiful they may be (as if you didn’t already know that).  For as long as I can remember, prose (particularly that of a lyrical nature) holds a very special place in my heart.  I suppose one could attempt to disprove the theory that words are indeed mightier than the sword but then again, why wage a war one cannot …
