Perfectly Flawed + A Link-Up

Perfectly Flawed + A Link-Up

We’re all perfectly flawed mortals In search of enlightenment.   That we are. We have dents.  We have bruises a-plenty.  There are chinks in our armour and cracks in our wall.  And I’m quite certain most of us have used up a lifetime’s worth of metaphorical band-aids trying to patch those cuts.  Yet whilst our flaws and imperfections are what make us, us, they don’t define us.  Neither do they determine the paths we choose.  The quote above?  I overheard it from an episode of Madam Secretary, and it struck such a chord with me.  So much that I thought I might share a little of my personal life choices, and how they’ve shaped me (for better or for worse). At the end of it, I hope you’ll come to see just how utterly flawed I am, and yet, still stitched held (if somewhat tenuously) together by nothing but the best and purest of intentions. PERFECTLY FLAWED MORTALS IN SEARCH OF ENLIGHTENMENT I grew up in a very strict environment.  Irrationally so because, at the …

Fuzzy, Shaggy, Furry Baby

You’ve heard me gripe about Houston’s schizophrenic weather before and how temperatures can soar into dizzily hot levels, even during Winter.  In truth, I don’t get many opportunities to wear anything thick since sweater weather doesn’t happen all that often in the South.  However, that has not been the case over the last week or so. Thank you lord.   From now until the middle of next week (insert groan), I’ll have my pick of the fuzzy, the shaggy and the furry which I love.  Today was a little on the warmer side so it wasn’t quite the moment to go full tilt bundled up (Asian dumplings don’t do too well in that department seeing how we’re very often too vertically challenged to pull off as many layers, unless, of course, you’re Chriselle, jelly) so I went with a token touch of faux fur. It’s a grandfather cardigan.  Point of trivia – the cardigan was named after  James Brudenell, 7th Earl of Cardigan, a British Army Major General who led the Charge of the Light …

Me In Jogger Pants? No!!!!

If there was one thing I never thought I’d see myself wearing, it would be Jogger Pants.  The glorified version of soccer mum sweatpants. Skinny sweatpants with tapered elastic bottoms (a quirky detail that gives even the most conservative of pant fabrics a little street-style edge) that have become a newfangled fashion statement. Popular beyond anyone’s wildest dreams, they’re practically everywhere these days. And today, they’re making a guest appearance on my body and my blog. The pair I’m wearing right now is from Forever 21 because here’s my thought process: if I didn’t like them, I wouldn’t have lost too much financially, yes? They’re fashioned from a Crêpe-like fabric with Faux Leather trims on waistline and cuffs which are, obviously, completely hidden. Ha. Epic photo failure, Sheela. Incidentally, my cardigan is completely covered with sequins on the front. I have a thing for shiny stuff. The jaunty hat was a necessary touch. It really was because I really like hats. I love love LOVE these Wedge Sneaker Boots. The Blue is electrifying and adds …

Glum Day RX – Loubies

It’s painstakingly, well, painful, for me to keep a straight face when shooting outfit pictures. I can’t help myself. I try oh so hard to put on that “cool bitch girl face”, be all glam and nonplussed but inadvertently, my goofy side comes out to play. Especially on cloudy days when the sun doesn’t know it’s mandatory supposed to shine on. Interesting discovery – Loubies aren’t just made for walking and eliciting orgasmic gasps from onlookers. They’re also quite the remedy for a dreary day. Look at what they made me do. I suppose I could try harder to, you know, look blasé. Nonchalant, even, so long as  at the end of the day, I can look in the mirror (or at photos) and reconcile myself with the catchpenny version staring right back at me. Do you think #ootd shots should be magazine-esque or imperfectly candid? Do you ham it up for the camera too? Love, Sheela p/s Photos by Eve, thumb rings a gift from her.  Dress from Forever21 (sold out, options here and …

Convergence

One of those mornings wherein couture meets high street. A Forever21 Jacket cum Sweatshirt with Hoody is the perfect foil for a stop-in-your-tracks-and-drool sunset-esque Helmut Lang tank. Throw in some leggings. Military Green Suede with Leather Buckles and Wood Wedge Heel Slouchy Boots. Some hardware on the fingers and wrist (the Rose Gold piece to the right is a gift from Eve and the Gold piece to the left is from my friend, Sheryl) and a smile or two. And that bold cuff? A a beautiful concoction from Leona Edmiston. It’s plaid fabric laidover with effervescent Orange Swarovskis. This was my ensemble for a tour of duty in the hardware store. You know what I mean, the Sunday Manday gig. We went home with several lamps, a few lights for the driveway and a brand new double oven stove. Bliss. I suppose it wasn’t just a man day in the end. Love, Sheela
