You Spin Me

Like a record, baby Right round, round, round   Who else loves disco?  I love disco.  Not necessarily the entire spectrum of disco music and disco style but certainly a bit here, a bit there.  I love me some Boney M, Bee Gees, Donna Summer, and who could forget that kickass of an anthem from Gloria Gaynor, I Will Survive. Appropriate much for a Monday post, yes? WHAT DOESN’T KILL YOU CAN ONLY MAKE YOU STRONGER Start-of-a-new-week-grind aside, I felt compelled to touch on the topic of disco not because this post focuses on that era but rather, because, to me, my shoes look like disco balls with heels. Or, from another angle, they could easily pass as shards of glass which may actually come across as being far edgier than disco balls.  Incidentally, this look is a perfect representation of how I put together an outfit, i.e., around my shoes.  It’s something which happens very frequently with me, and, I do fancy, not that rare an occurrence for many of us.  Come to think …

Playing With Prints

We keep repeating the mantra that fashion ought to be, above all, fun. And playful.  A true representation of our personalities. But too often I find myself hiding behind tried and tested formulas, sticking closely to what’s been proved instead of sticking my neck out, you know, exploring new territory. Does that tend to happen to you too? I have the greatest of admiration for those who flirt unabashedly with print and pattern, all perfectly put together in the name of go bold or go home.  Catherine puts together seemingly improbable combinations with a masterful hand.  Ann boldly goes where many of us dare not and does so with blatant joy. Sacramento Amate or, as she’s more popularly known, Mis Papelicos, attacks loud prints in even louder colours with gusto and electic chic. Also, I would be completely remiss if I failed to mention Kirsten and her knack for pairing graphic prints with strong colours to create striking outfits that make you wonder why you’d never thought of them yourself. And there’s Samantha, a newly …

Just Another Day

When I woke up this morning, I wasn’t certain if I was supposed to feel something different. It was, afterall, the second day of a brand new year. And, in truth, I felt precisely the same as I had 24, no, 48 hours before that. How different things were when I was a child. Then, the air was simply electric with excitement. Palpable, even. What changed? As is often the case with other sensory capabilities, have we become blasé with age? That said, I wasn’t quite in the mood for deep, philosophical thoughts. Nor did I feel at all inclined to pen a “serious” post. Instead, I thought it’d bode much better to kickstart 2015 with an outfit post 🙂 Such frivolity, you say. And why ever not? Oftentimes, lighthearted fun is the best gift we can give ourselves. Nothing deep. No requirement whatsoever of prolonged thought. Fashion is just that (or it ought to be). It’s not something you need to ponder and agonise over. It’s an outward manifestation of one’s personality and should …
