The Steadfast Tin Soldier & The Love Skull

Once upon a time, quite a few years ago, a little Chinese girl from Borneo sat alongside her older brother and listened enraptured as their mother read to them aloud, a tale from Hans Christian Andersen ~ The Ballerina & The Steadfast Tin Soldier. Fast forward close to three and half decades later, and that story has stayed with me.  Perhaps it’s because of the underlying note of self-sacrifice, doom and tragedy which are not characteristic of children’s stories.  The absence of white picket fences and happy ever afters.  And, of course, that subtle nuance of desire as well as passion which had, prior to that, been completely lacking from any Andersen composition.                                                                                                                             …

(Inter)Stellar Intentions

So that we’re clear, I had every stellar intention to post these pictures when they were taken which would be, ahem, two Sundays ago.  C’mon, it’s been a rollercoaster fortnight 🙂 anyways, I “did” take photos of a week’s worth of outfits and will be uploading them across the next few days.  Pinkie promise.  Ish. I was also determined to make this more than a fluff piece, you know, but I think that’s what we’re getting for today.  My train of thought has been derailed, if the wheels were ever set in motion in the first instance.  Oy. Now, we all know that the devil’s in the details and therefore, the procession of pieces put together for this post (quasi tongue twister) is comprised of ~ a Mace Brown Shrug thingy which is older than Eve.  Yes it is.  Purchased in Singapore circa 1996.  And I said Mace because it’s that time of the year and I rather fancy the scent of Mace. Over, no, under this brown sugarness is a glorious dress of galactic …

The Delicate & Dramatic Peach Blush Goes Out To Lunch

A Southern belle I am not, for sure, but dramatic?  Absolutely.  Delicate?  Outwardly, yes. On Saturday, we had the electricians come in to rework the entire wiring of the house which meant (a) no air conditioning during one of the hottest Winter days ever [darn you, erratic Houston weather] AND (b) no way to cook brekker, lunch nor dinner (yay yay yay).  My wonderful man asked what I wanted to eat for lunch and, truth be told, I had no idea so my reply was that I’d choose my ensemble first and we’d proceed from there. I chose the prettiest top in my entire closet.  It’s a lovely shade of Peach, kinda like sorbet, with delicate, ever so fluttery sleeves.  I wore it with a new thrifted hi-low skirt, it’s silk chiffon and is also Peach-esque but creamier and with an underlying hint of Blush.  Does that make sense? Pardon the cast.  I broke my wrist.  Wait, did I forget to blog about that? The belt is of an amazing snakeskin, so too the multi-wrap …

In The Words Of Charles Mignus

“Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that’s creativity” ~ Charles Mignus I wanted to put together something effortless for our virgin trip to the Renaissance Festival (blogged here).  And the challenge was to create a deceptively simple, uncluttered look that would still be able to convey a hint of the dramatic, to represent me ever so perfectly.  I think this worked 🙂 In a soothing hue of Camel, the classic cardigan is made spot-on-trendy with that oversized slouchy fit and given a twist of glam with the addition of an EXQUISITE and tremendously soft, plushy Faux Fur Collar.  Your regular humdrum tank is kicked up a notch or twenty with an ink blot motif made of a Rorschach print by none other than Project Runway winner Mondo Guerra. I thought the red picked out the highlights in my hair wonderfully. Worn with comfy black leggings (because vanity does not always trump sanity) and the most darling Vintage Inspired Riding Boots.  I know, Sheela in flats?  Will wonders never cease. …

Fee, Fi, Faux Fur

I love fairy tales ~ does it show? I’m still getting to know my Coral Painter Lite. (trying to) Strike A Pose Brown Faux Fur Shrug worn with a stunning Hi-Low Jersey Black Top which features brass skulls.  I paired these two exquisite garments with sleek Black Leggings and killer Nikita Boots. Brass Choker/Necklace with Fool’s Gold and Chains a-plenty. See those skulls??  LOVE LOVE LURVE. Vintage Ferragamo Bag. A gift from my man, this is one of my all time favourite bags – a vintage Ferragamo featuring gorgeous wild animals, leather and some hardware.  Just phenomenal. From the back. See how beautifully that Jersey top drapes?  And yes, I have red hair 😀 Seated. Trying to act all cool and nonchalant as only a 40 year old can. Femme Fatale Boots. Another (perfectly chosen) gift from the man ~ what can I say, he’s from Italy 🙂 And that’s all there is for now, there isn’t anymore. Love, SG

Shiny, Sparkly, Sassy

Razzle. Dazzle. Two of my favourite words in the entire English language.  Blumarine amped these and then some in its Fall 2012 Ready-To-Wear Collection.  Just look at those shiny hues.  Those picture perfect prismatic cuts.  Blinding and dazzling and simply bombastic. Majulah Malaysia

I was born in Kuching, the capital city of Sarawak which is one of the 12 states making up the country of Malaysia ~ a thriving but small nation located in the heart of South East Asia.  Yes, born and bred and (for the most part) proud of it. This is such a moment. Street style a la Malaysian.   Love, SG
