My New York Moment(s)

New York, New York. There’s something about you.   So at the time of writing, I’ve been home from New York Fashion Week for precisely slightly over a week.  I spent survived 6 days in the city during one of its most crazy times.  New York Fashion Week.  Ahhh.  What an experience.  There was the good, the not so good, and the downright ugly.  When things were good, they were very good.  The not so good wasn’t too detrimental, nothing a bruised ego couldn’t recover from.  But when they were ugly, they were really ugly which, thankfully, were few and far between. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing all my New York Fashion Week tales with you.  Hopefully they won’t bore you too much, and yes, expect a gallery of those mandatory “what I wore to NYFW” photos, whilst regaling how I speed-changed my way in between shows!!! G R I N But today is not about that. Today, we’re talking about Project Sister Act.  You know, that monthly gig wherein five to …

The Fab 40s In Pink & Red | Sheela Writes

The Fab 40s In Pink & Red

Pink is the colour of candy floss And red is the colour of my beating heart   Things have certainly changed around here.  Mousing through the archives, I realise that I’ve gone from wearing almost exclusively dark shades and black to, well, look at me now. Wearing Red.  And mixing it all up with Pink. And posing like I’ve been doing it my entire life. Indeed, this blog has come a long way since  I started it in November 2012, went on a hiatus (somewhat sporadically yet frequently, if that makes any sense) until November 2015 when I decided there were a few things I wanted to accomplish before turning 50.  I know it sounds truly peculiar but one of the key things on my list was to find a tribe of my own.  Yes, a tribe.  A gathering of like-minded souls, gender notwithstanding.  A circle of people able to discuss and dissect any topic under the bright blue sky, without fear of judgement, and who feels equally comfortable with the sound of silence. The …

Does Pink Really Exist | Sheela Writes

Does Pink Really Exist?

Is Pink a made-up colour? Is it even real?   Or simply the act of wishful thinking, our brain blending red and violet wavelengths together to create the colour of many little girls’ birthday parties? And I’m not talking about the artiste once known as Alecia Moore. I’m also surmising that you’re somewhat bewildered by the title of this post since my covershot has absolutely no pink whatsoever in it. At all. Perhaps these subsequent images will be of some help. And while it’s perfectly true that no single wavelength of light appears pink, and that pink requires an amalgamation of both red as well as violet lights, does that equate a drummed-up, imaginary existence for what Pantone has coined as one of the two colours of 2016? I’m not so sure. Further food for thought: colour itself is merely an interpretation presented by our brain, meaning no other colour is really out there.  Colour is a sensation which arises in your head.  It’s how you interpret it then name it and, consequently, categorise it. …

Woman In White

I’m not sure how I feel about this outfit. On one hand, I love the crisp feel of a white shift paired with pops of colour. And on the other hand, shapeless garments aren’t precisely the best option for my current steroid-pumped state. I did, however, have loads oodles and doodles (and noodles) of fun posing for this post. I felt pumped and stoked. I suppose, then, that I do actually quite like this ensemble. And, why yes, this was what I wore on Independence Day. Hear me out though. I do think this isn’t too in-your-face-screaming-colours-of-the-flag and could easily pass off as a regular ensemble. I finally remembered to wear my brand new White Snakeskin Cuff, with a very special Honeycomb motif. Is it not just glorious? And a picture perfect pristine traffic-stopper in its own right which is the reason why it’s the only accoutrement I chose for my wrist this time around. Lipstick is Barbeque from the MAC Toledo line. And this clutch here, it’s SO beautiful and bold and blue. Snakeskin …

Because I’ve Been A Fake & In Other News, Lace Is My Summer Must-Have

I owe each and every single one of you an apology. I really do.   Of late, I’ve fallen out of love with clothes and styling myself, and it’s shown in the way I’ve thrown things together. There’s been an absolute lack of creativity and passion in the outfits I’ve worn. Nothing looks effortless (save maybe that red dress), and I’m nowhere near enjoying myself. Life has taken a huge toll and you’ve been paying the price for that. You shouldn’t need to and for that, I am really really sorry. No matter what’s been going on in my personal life, fashion and clothes should always be a form of stress relief. A detox, if you like. Something I do to maintain my sanity and have fun. Always with loads of fun. When the fun is no longer apparent, that’s when I know I need to step away and re-evaluate. Which is precisely what I did and it, in turn, led me to come to the conclusion that I’ve been shortchanging you. I’ve been faking …

That (Red) Dress

You know, that piece. The one which makes you feel like a million dollars. That singular garment which makes all things appear possible and within reach. It’s truly amazing the power clothes have on one’s self-esteem, one’s self-confidence. And no matter what anyone says to the contrary, there’s nothing quite like a well-cut piece of clothing to make one feel as though one could rule the world. In this particular instance, my superhero item is this glorious red dress from Amanda Valentine. Which doesn’t need much in terms of accessories.  Perhaps a tribal clutch. Or a pair of killer heels. This red dress makes me feel, well, invincible. And oh so kickass. What’s your superhero piece?
